Our Downtown
Digs
- Eminently walkable, overwhelmingly historic and an overall wonderful town,
Boston sizzles with the energy of a huge student population and a thriving local
economy. Its cobblestone streets are home to the Freedom Trail, which links
dozens of colonial and Revolutionary sites. Our EIS Boston office is located in
the bustling Downtown Crossing. Steps away on Chauncy Street you can visit the
heart of the financial district or stroll the historic gas-lit streets tasting
delicious New England cuisine and filling your shopping bags.
Part of a Revitalized Boston
- Our office location falls within The Boston Redevelopment Authority's plan
to aid in revitalizing Boston's historic downtown financial district. The plan,
issued by Mayor Thomas M. Menino in June 1996, has focused on safeguarding
downtown Boston's history and protecting the area's unique character, building
towards a vibrant neighborhood where people work, shop, enjoy cultural events
and make their homes.
Battery Powered
History
- The building dates back to 1912 as a "DC power station" for the Boston
Edison Company. Its job was to generate back-up battery power during black outs
when the regular power plants failed, providing electricity to the then
commercial center of Boston.
- Originally it housed an enormous battery that spanned approximately seven
stories and also had 'in-house' generators to regenerate the battery located on
the ground floor. Eventually the intermediary floors (2 - 9) were inserted in
the space that originally was open to house this 'tall' battery.
Our Renovation
- EIS Chauncy Street was officially open for business in December 2001 after a
complete renovation. The now bright and airy penthouse is home to our US
Corporate Team and Sales desks. A spectacular terrace overlooks the financial
district skyline and Boston Harbor.
